Since I was still reading the "Dark is Rising" sequence I read Susan Cooper's The Grey King almost immediately after Edward Tulane. At the time I thought it was my favourite book in the series yet! But it seems that I think that everytime, so I'll reserve judgement until I've read the last book. After The Grey King I started on Silver on the Tree. But on Wednesday evening I had a sudden craving for Diana Wynne Jones, so I re-read Power of Three. I think I've read that the most times, among all her books. Even though Fire and Hemlock is my favourite.I finished Silver on the Tree the next morning before work, and I just had a lot of mixed feelings after that. I was really glad to have read such wonderful books, of course, and I wanted to go back to Over Sea, Under Stone all over again, but I was also sorry that I had reached the end of it. I didn't read much the rest of the day (and the day after). Instead, I started watching Buffy again. I watched a few episodes from season 2, then launched into the beginning of season 3. I've forgotten how much I loved the series! I started texting my sister (who is studying in Russia right now) about Buffy, and she replied on Friday with a Xander quote - "I laugh in the face of
danger. Then I hide until it goes away." We have lots of love for Buffy, even though she's more obsessed with Sirius Black and Harry Potter fanfiction right now.My first bookmooch, Alan Bennett's The Uncommon Reader, arrived at exactly the right time one day - when I left the house without a book with me, and found it in the mail when I was wondering if I should turn back to get one. I read it in the train on the way out, and finished it on the way back. There were so many paragraphs that I'd highlight/underline if I were the type to do that. It put me in a good mood the whole day.
Last Wednesday afternoon my mother and I left for Singapore to visit my brother (& sister-in-law and very cute niece!), and I packed 4 books to take along with me - Uglies, The Wood Wife, Inkheart, and Speaker For the Dead. I was reading Scott Westerfeld's Uglies on the way there, and finished it by Thursday afternoon while visiting my great-aunt, who also lives in Singapore. I barely read in the plane, though - AirAsia is a seriously bumpy and somewhat scary ride. I wanted to get to the next book right away! But Pretties is still at the reservation counter at Kino (I'm going to get it as soon as I'm back at work), so I have to wait. I enjoyed Uglies VERY MUCH, so I'd like to thank Lightheaded for giving to me last Christmas!
I was going to start re-reading Inkheart next, but my mom left the book she was re-reading (Nora Robert's Chesapeake Blue) at my great-aunt's place and started reading Inkheart instead. My sister-in-law now borrows a lot of books from the Singapore National Library - well, if we had a library like theirs in Malaysia I'd be a library user too! - and had Janni Lee Simner's Bones of Faerie with her, so I read it. I finished it in a few hours. I was really sleepy and tired from walking most of the day, but I couldn't put it down. It's one of the most interesting fairy books I've read, and definitely the most interesting post-apocalyptic fiction I've read.
By the time I was done with Bones of Faerie my mom had moved on to Dorothy Koomson's Goodnight, Beautiful, but I was in the mood for more fairy fiction, so I didn't re-read Inkheart. I was going to read The Wood Wife, but my sis-in-law recommended another book she liked, Need by Carrie Jones. I loved that as much as Bones of Faerie! Finished it in one sitting as well. When I started it, and got to Zara's first day at her new school, I thought, this is everything Twilight should have been but isn't! I wonder why all these fairy stories have werewolves in them, though. On Saturday (yesterday) morning all of us went out to see Sophie at her swimming class, after which we had breakfast and walked around Suntec/Raffles City Mall to the National Library. Apparently there are lots of used book stores there. It was amazing! I thought Amcorp Mall is pretty cool for having 3 bookstores and 1 rent-a-book place, but it's nothing compared to where my brother took us. There were so many bookstores, we couldn't really browse through all of them. But the one store that I did manage to properly browse was cool enough - I found the first two Chalet School books and 1 two-in-one Chalet school volume (books 9 and 10). They had lots of other cool stuff, like an illustrated hardcover of Little Women (different from the one I have) and a hardcover of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Pity I didn't have a lot of cash with me when I was there.
I also finally started on Terri Windling's The Wood Wife, which I'm still reading now. It's one of the chosen books for Kino's fairy fiction promotion - we didn't use to carry the title in the store, but after reading Nymeth's review I thought we really should! I'm loving it every bit as much as I thought I would. I was reading it on the flight back yesterday (even though this time the ride was bumpier and scarier than before) and would be continuing to read it today, if it wasn't for the fact that (1) my mother bought the first Jeeves and Wooster DVD set in Singapore and now we're going to be watching it, and (2) there's a Heroes season 3 marathon this afternoon!

You've been reading some really great stuff lately! I'm looking forward to finishing The Dark is Rising soon, though I know I'll probably be sad that it's over.
The Uncommon Reader left me in a good mood too. I know exactly what you mean.
I need to get my hands on the Uglies series asap. And The Wood Wife! I'm so glad you're enjoying it so much :)
Those books you've read sound so interesting. I've always wanted to read The Dark Is Rising books.
I'm really glad you liked Uglies! I'm sure you'll adore Pretties and the rest of the series (Specials then Extras uh, as an extra).
And I'm happy that I made your reading enjoyable with the book :)
